On Memorizing Scripture

If you’re like me, you can still remember line-for-line the songs you used to listen to growing up. Sometimes I surprise myself at how well I can recite a song I haven’t heard in years. Lately I’ve been asking myself, do I know the word of God in that same automatic way? Does it spring forth effortlessly in my mind in times of need? The Bible tells us of the importance of storing up God’s word in our hearts:

“I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word” Psalm 119:16

“All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” Psalm 119:105

We are to delight in God’s word and to rely on it for direction in our daily lives. So let’s start memorizing! Ready? Psalm 131 is a short but powerful one to start off with🙂
